Does God exist?

This week was a little crazy with a missionary exchange and a branch party.

One big part of my week was working with members. We had a couple inactive members turn up. Even though we weren't able to get them out to church this week it was fun to meet them. One of those was Lee Wonhyok. He's a really funny guy that actually called us. He really likes the missionaries but became less active after his friends told him that our church was a cult. In spite of being susceptible to peer pressure he's a really nice guy and probably just needs a good push in the right direction to get him active again.

Another aspect we've been focusing on are the active members. The Korean members love the missionaries. Because they love them they make these massive meals when the missionaries come and try to kept us in the home for a really long time. I love these meal appointments too, but we're really busy and I hate draining the members like that. So, to keep that at a minimum, Elder Peterson and I have been doing surprise attacks. We visit the members home, give them a card with a nice picture and a scripture or quote from conference, and say a prayer with them. After that we're off. Trying this new method we've been able to meet many of the members and help build the member missionary relationship.

Each area has a phone. When missionaries transfer the phone stays. Because of that missionary phones accumulate a lot of contacts. This week I decided to take a stab at calling those old contacts and seeing if they have any interest. I came across this one woman who had interest in our English class. I told her the times and explained that we started and ended each class with a prayer. She surprised me by asking, "Does God exist?" I quickly responded that he does exist. She asked how someone could know something like that. "You cant' see God, right?" she added. I explained that even though we cannot see God right now, we can still know that he exists. He loves us and wants us to know about him. That's why we can pray and feel the spirit. The scriptures are God's words, they guide us.
After I had finished speaking there was a moment of silence. "I've been wondering about that," the woman finally said. We talked a bit more and scheduled a time to meet this week.
