Saying goodbye to Elder Oh

This week was a bit of an odd one. Because of the Korean new year the mission president decided to send the returning missionaries home a couple days earlier. All of the members in our ward wanted to do a dinner for Elder Oh before he left so I spent three days running from appointment to appointment getting fat on Korean BBQ.

After that I sent Elder Oh off and met my temporary companion, Elder Affleck. He is a zone leader in the other zone in Busan so the two of us had a good time talking together about the zone leader life. From Thursday to Sunday I served in his area. During that time we were really busy planning the transfers for our mission. We had to make sure that all of the missionaries were able to make it to their new areas. They had to be in companionships the entire time so planning it was like putting together a really big puzzle. Pretty stressful but I think that all of the missionaries made it so it's ok.

While I was with Elder Affleck we went and saw Dok chon market. This market is an open air market with lots of traditional foods. In particular it is famous for dog meat. I can say that I was pretty scarred from the experience. I've eaten dog once before and was fine with it then, but seeing dozens of dogs all caged up with big racks of meat next to them put a new perspective in my mind.

On that thought, lately I've really been trying to push my self as a missionary. I've really learned that progression is an eternal process. The more I push myself the farther I go. There is really no limit. I also find that the more I push myself the more tired I become and also the happier I become.

I got my official new companion today. His name is Elder Mitchel and he will be a zone leader with me. He's really awesome. He's really nice and works really hard. He's also a clean freak so I think that my house will ace inspection this transfer. I'm really excited to serve with him.

Til next week

Elder Harkness

P.S. This is our baptism from last week. It was a super great experience!
